A ceremony to mark 'Flag Day 2021' was held in Scoil Mhuire agus Íde on Tuesday 16th March 2021. Our Flag was first raised by Thomas Francis Meagher in March 1848 in Waterford. The flag was inspired by the French tri-colour. It has a unique message. The white symbolises a lasting truce between the two traditions on our Island, the orange and green. It is an iconic symbol that generates world wide respect with its meaning for peace, respect, diversity and inclusion. We also recognised the flags of all our nationalities in our school community in SMI.
The raising of the flag is symbolic. As a nation we are beginning to see some light coming from the darkness of the Covid Pandemic and the raising of the flag in our school symbolised a coming together to create a community of hope for Ireland's future.
Is bratach sainiúil í ár mbratach agus tá an teachtaireacht chomh láidir inniu is mar a bhí sé i 1848.
Mar a deir mana nan scoile 'Ní neart go cur le chéile'.
